Outlaw
A hidden role in some cases: exactly one suspect is the outlaw, and that person may or may not be the murderer.
Explanation
The general clues announce the rule: "There's exactly one outlaw hiding amongst the suspects. The outlaw may or may not be the murderer." Nothing on the board marks who it is. Another general clue adds a fact about the outlaw, such as "The outlaw was alone", and clue cards may say "Not the outlaw", so you work out the role by elimination while you place people. German editions call this role der Gesetzlose (Gesetzloser); Spanish editions use forajido.
Example
In Horse With No Name, a general clue says the outlaw was on the horse, and the victim's card says "Not the outlaw". The victim can be ruled out of the horse squares straight away.
Common Mistake
Assuming the outlaw is the murderer. They are separate questions: identify the murderer only from who was alone with the victim.
