This must be (C): it cannot be (E) because there are no easels there, (G) because there are no chairs there, or (V) because she must be alone with the murderer. Pencil (C) into the possible Gallery squares beside the statue and cross out the others. Also, (C) cannot be in the bottom row, since (D) must be one row south of her.Now that (C) is alone in the Gallery, (F) must be on a carpet square in R2. Since (G) is the only person sitting in a chair, (F) must be on the only carpet square in R2 that is not a chair: R2C5. R7 also has only one remaining square that must be occupied, so cross out all intersecting squares except R7C8.(A) must be alone, so he can only be in the last square in Supplies: R3C9. He cannot be in the Office because (B) is there, and he cannot be alone in the Sculpting Studio or Painting Studio because that would leave empty rows and prevent everyone from fitting in the grid.Because (G) is the only person sitting in a chair, (E) must be in R6C4: the only square directly south of an easel that is not a chair. This narrows (C) to two squares in R8, so cross out the others in that row. Since (D) is one row south of the woman in the Gallery and cannot occupy a chair, (D) must be in R9C6.There is now only one chair left, so (G) must be in R5C3. This fixes (C) in R8C1. Since (H) must be beside a table, (H) is in R4C7. The final remaining square, R7C8, goes to (V), which means (D) is the murderer.
