Coordinate note: R1 means row 1, C1 means column 1, and R1C1 is the upper-left cell. Based on official Murdoku hints, with site corrections to step 3. The affected wording has been edited by this site; it is not unmodified official text.
To begin, one person is on a bed and both beds are in R7, so whoever occupies the bed must be in this row. Cross out all non-bed squares in R7.(G) CANNOT occupy the Main Bedroom carpets: (G) is alone with a woman, but (C)'s clue puts him, a man, in the Main Bedroom. So (G) is in R5 on one of the Living Room carpet squares – pencil in both and cross out the rest of R5. This narrows the only Kitchen square left, R6C5, for (F).Since (A) must be alone, the only square he can take is R4C9 in the Study – (G) is in the Living Room, (D) in the Guest Room, (C) in the Main Bedroom, and (B) in the Dining Room since there's nowhere else for him to be beside a table. So pencil in (B) for the four Dining Room table squares he could occupy.Per (B)'s clue he was NOT alone, so (B) and someone else must occupy the Dining Room. That means no one can occupy R1C6 – a person there would remove all of (B)'s squares and leave him alone. For (B) and another to share the Dining Room, they must occupy R1 and C6, so cross out all squares in R1 and C6 that aren't in the Dining Room. Whoever occupies C6 will be on the chair, so by the one-chair clue cross out all other chairs, including the chair in R1.R1 now has one square left that must be occupied, so cross out the rest of C7. This leaves R7C8 for (C) in the Main Bedroom – so (C) is the one on the bed. (D) takes the corner of the Guest Room at R9C1, leaving (G) at R5C2. R8 now has one square left, so cross out the rest of C3.Now the woman with (G): not the victim (male), so (E) or (H), in one of the two C4 squares. No C4 square lets (E) be beside a chair, so (H) is with (G) in the Living Room at R2C4 (she has a TV in her row). That leaves R1C7 for (E) in the Dining Room, and (B) at R3C6 in the chair. This leaves the last square R8C3 for (V) – hence (D) is the murderer.
